TOWARDS GENDER EQUITY: Celebrating innovative initiatives that promote gender equity in urban mobility.

Euroclima is the regional cooperation programme that promotes a strategic partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean, based on shared values and a commitment to jointly address climate change and biodiversity loss. It is a platform for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and experiences between the two regions.

The programme is co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Government through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It aims to contribute to a sustainable, resilient and inclusive transition through climate change mitigation and adaptation actions, including the protection, restoration and conservation of biodiversity, as well as the promotion of the circular economy.

SoMoS LAC contest, “Towards Equity: Recognizing Innovative Initiatives for Gender Equity in Urban Mobility,” is promoted by Euroclima. Its mission is to strengthen cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean, fostering a green, fair, and sustainable transition across 33 countries.

SoMoS LAC connects public, private, and civil society actors, fostering dialogue and collaboration to drive leadership, policy development, and initiatives that improve mobility systems sustainably across the region. The network is structured into thematic groups, including the Gender, Equity, and Inclusion in Mobility Systems group, led by the Colombian Ministry of Transport, which is promoting this contest as part of its action plan.

Purpose of the SoMoS LAC Award

The contest seeks to recognize, showcase, and promote innovative initiatives that advance gender equity and inclusion in urban mobility throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Selected initiatives will be featured on SoMoS LAC’s interactive web map, highlighting their key features. In doing so, the contest aims to encourage sustainable mobility for women and improve their urban travel experience, as well as access to public spaces.

Priority will be given to initiatives that have a tangible impact on equity and inclusion, with strong potential for replication and long-term sustainability. The contest is open to public institutions, private companies, civil society organizations, and academic entities leading these efforts.
