Why Should Transport Be Feminist?
Feminism is a key part of making transportation better for everyone. A feminist transport system helps everyone and supports gender equality. It affects how people can access important services like health care, education, jobs, and social activities.
Gender equality in transport is important. Women and gender minorities around the world face similar challenges because our cities and transport systems were not designed with them in mind.
What Is Feminist Transport?
A feminist transport system focuses on the needs of women and girls. It considers their travel patterns, safety, and roles as caregivers. This system ensures that women and girls feel safe, and that the design of the transport system is fair for everyone.
What is the need for this platform?
Information about gender and transport is scattered and not easy to find. Many organizations work towards gender equality in transport, but it’s hard to keep track of all the progress being made. Smaller groups, especially local ones, often don’t get the attention they deserve. We believe that connecting globally is essential to achieving zero-emission transport that includes everyone. Together, we can achieve more.
Our Approach: Bringing Knowledge and People Together
Women Mobilize Women – along with its partner networks Women on the Move in Asia and Women in Motion in Latin America – founded the Global Alliance to unite feminist efforts in transport. The Global Alliance for Feminist Transport connects people around the world to share ideas and take action.
The Global Alliance for Feminist Transport brings together and supports organizations, networks, and individuals who are working to make transport systems fair and equal for everyone, regardless of gender. Together, our goal is to be the leading voice on feminist sustainable transport, shining a light on the people, projects, and ideas that are helping our cities become more gender-equitable.
How is the platform managed and financed?
