Women on the Move Asia Mentorship Programme

As women continue to be underrepresented in the transport industry, fostering early-career support is essential. Women on the Move is launching a year-long, online mentorship program to connect women in Asia with similar goals and focus areas.

Program Highlights

One-on-One Mentorship

Applicants will be matched through our online form, allowing for active exchanges on desired focus areas.

Regular Meetings

We recommend each mentor-mentee pair meet at least three times over the year, with “check-in” activities to ensure a productive relationship.

Final Presentation

After a year, pairs will present together on how the mentorship has supported their goals. Topics may include personal development or research projects related to gender and transport.

Continued Partnership

We encourage ongoing collaboration beyond the program.

Jane’s Walk

A Two-Year Update on Women on the Move Asia’s Participation

Jane’s Walk is an international event celebrating active mobility and the exploration of urban spaces. This annual event encourages participants to discover the joys of walking while embracing their surroundings, fostering a deeper connection with their cities.

From May 5 to 7, Jane’s Walk took place across 10 cities in 5 countries. Participants embarked on themed walks that included exploring historical landmarks, indulging in culinary delights, and discovering university campuses. Each city had a unique approach, with some starting in the morning and others in the evening. After the walks, participants engaged in discussion sessions, sharing experiences and gaining valuable insights.

Women on the Move Asia, in collaboration with Women in Transport Leadership and local communities, organized the Jane’s Walk 2023: WE MOVE. This initiative successfully presented diverse perspectives on walkability, grounded in participants’ daily experiences and observations during the walks.

In 2024, Jane’s Walk continued to promote a more human-paced connection with our surroundings. A total of 17 walks took place across over 15 cities globally, with Women on the Move Asia actively participating again. These walks provided an opportunity to better understand how cities can become more accessible, safe, and inclusive for everyone.

An online debriefing meeting on June 5 brought together participants from around the world to share experiences, key takeaways, and insights. The walks revealed hidden layers of urban environments, highlighting strengths and areas needing improvement. Participants identified thriving areas and those requiring attention, sparking conversations about creating more inclusive and engaging urban spaces.

During the walk, participants compared images reimagined with the help of Artificial intelligence (AI) to the real locations where the original photos were taken. This approach enabled them to identify significant existing gaps in urban and transport related infrastructures and discuss strategies for building inclusive urban transport systems.

Women on the Move Asia’s involvement over the past two years has significantly contributed to raising awareness about walkability and inclusive urban design. We hope these efforts will continue to inspire communities to envision and work towards more connected, resilient cities.

Together with Women Mobilize Women, Women on the Move Asia hosted an enlightening session at the Asia and the Pacific Transport Forum 2024!

The session, titled “Building Feminist Cities: Exploring Inclusivity Intersections,” focused on fostering empathy for historically excluded groups in city and transport planning, addressing both conscious and unconscious biases. We discussed the intersectionality of mobility and what it means to create cities that are inclusive for all, regardless of gender, ability, age, origin, economic status, and other factors.

Following the panel, participants engaged in a Jane’s Walk around the ADB Headquarters area, where panelists shared insights alongside AI-generated images of reimagined spaces. These visuals illustrated a vision of what a feminist city could be. Participants enjoyed the experience of walking while observing their surroundings. After the walk, discussions were held to exchange experiences and insights.
