SHORT BIO – GRACE ACHIENG OJIAYO

Grace Achieng Ojiayo is the Assistant Director for Climate Change and Air Quality at the Nairobi City County Government and serves as the Technical Assistant to the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Mobility and Works. In these roles, she provides strategic and technical leadership across sustainable mobility, air quality management, and climate resilience programs within the county.

Grace has been instrumental in shaping Nairobi’s transition toward cleaner and more inclusive transport systems. She is playing a key role in the formulation of the Nairobi City County EV Charging Infrastructure Framework, a foundational policy that guides the rollout of safe, accessible, and gender-responsive e-mobility infrastructure across the city. She has also supported major initiatives such as the Breathe Nairobi air quality data ecosystem, Non Motorized Transport policy actions, and multi-sectoral regulatory development for safer streets and improved public transport governance.

Her cross-portfolio experience—spanning Boroughs and Sub-County Administration, Green Nairobi, and now Mobility and Works—gives her a unique systems-level perspective on urban governance, service delivery, and equity.

Grace is also a researcher and graduate scholar whose work focuses on non-motorized transport infrastructure and pedestrian safety. She is deeply committed to advancing gender inclusion, evidence-based transport planning, and the transformation of African cities into safer, more accessible, and climate-resilient spaces for all.
