Woman Accessing Public Transport – TOPUK

TOPUK aims to improve women’s access to public transportation through participatory methods, addressing diverse challenges identified through resident surveys and workshops with local organizations. These challenges encompass issues ranging from streets to public transportation stops, vehicles, and open public spaces, often influenced by prevailing gender norms. The project seeks to create safer, more secure, and comfortable transportation experiences for women in Istanbul’s Maltepe district, potentially serving as a model for similar initiatives in other cities.

Pro Rail Alliance

The Allianz pro Schiene (“Pro Rail Alliance”) is Germany’s most extraordinary transport association. It unites 24 non-profit organizations and more than 150 railway sector companies, which collaboratively aim at the promotion and improvement of rail traffic in Germany.

Also the organization has a focus on gender. One instance is the initiative “Women’s Network: Mobility needs women”. With this, it questions why the railway industry is one of the classic male domains and if this has to stay that way?. It is with this regard that leading female managers in the industry asked themselves this question and founded the “Mobility needs women” network under the umbrella of the Pro-Rail Alliance.
